Do's and Dont's in Asia
Exotissimo Travel would like to remind all travelers how they can help to protect Southeast Asia from the negative impacts of tourism and ensure the well being of the Mekong subregion’s unique culture and natural environment.
Please keep in mind these simple principles
Protect biodiversity and the environment:
- Refuse to consume or buy products that exploit or aid the destruction of wildlife.
- Play a role in the conservation of endangered species by visiting one of the managed conservation areas.
- Do not pick up samples from nature (orchids, butterflies, etc) and do not touch or feed wild animals.
- Do not dispose of garbage or cigarettes in the wild and take your plastic bags and bottles with you at all times.
- Use recyclable products and bury, burn or biodegrade your wastes.
- Try to reduce the use of and save energy (air conditioner, lights, etc).

Respect cultural differences:
- Try to speak the local language: a simple “helloâ€, “goodbye†and “thank you†is always greatly appreciated!
- Respect local dress standards and dress modestly, especially in the countryside or at religious sites, and
- Do not show affection in public. - Do not buy or use drugs of any kinds.
- Do not give money to children or adults as it encourages begging but rather make gifts to village elders or organizations such as schools.
- Buy locally made crafts to support and boost the local economy. Keep in mind that bargaining is accepted!
