Land-locked between China in the North, Myanmar and Thailand on the West, Vietnam on the East and Cambodia at the southern border, Laos is a cross road between all these destinations. With 236 000 sqkm, the country is featured by three different regions: the mountainous North, Central Laos is dominated by the Khammouane Plateau and the South by the Bolovens. Almost three quarters of the country is mountainous and the forest is widely present. Mount Phou Bia is the highest peak f Laos with 2820m in Xiengkhouang Province. The Annamite Mountain Range in the East and the Mekong on the western side of the country offers natural borders. The mighty Mekong is a way to link all the country from North to South alongside stunning sceneries between mountainous areas, flat lands and limestone landscapes.
With few inhabitants, around 6 millions, and a lot of place, the country is a genuine gateway for nature and quiet areas and has a lot to offer for any kind of expectations. Laos is home of many ethnic groups spread through the country between Akha, Kamu, Hmong in the North; Katang in the Centre or Alak, Katu, Laven in the Bolovens.
