Thailand sits right in the centre of mainland South-East Asia bordering Myanmar to the east, Laos to the north, Cambodia to the west and Malaysia to the south. The north of the country is mainly mountainous while the central region is a vast fertile plain drained by the Chao Praya river. In the south the country stretches for over 1,000 kilometers down a narrow peninsula to the Malaysian border. The country’s capital and by far the largest city, is Bangkok, one of the major economic hubs of the region and gateway to the countries of Indochina and Myanmar.
13% of the country is covered by 80 national parks (18 are coastal parks) with a tropical fauna and flora.
