Vietnam is featured by a very long profile of 1600km North to South like a huge “S”. The country is quite narrow except in the North with the Red River Delta and the mountainous area et the South with the huge Mekong Delta, called the “Nine Dragons river” or Song Cuu Long.

Vietnam is the most populated country in the Great Mekong Subregion with over 85 millions inhabitants for 332000 sqkm. 75% of the country is mountainous with the highest peak of Fansipan (3143m) in the North, close to the chinese border. Vietnam is bordered by China in the North, Laos and the Annamite Mountain Range on the upper western side and Cambodia in lower west. The rest of the country is bordered with a 3260km coastline alongside the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Vietnam is as well home of many ethnic groups (54).
